Welcome back to 30 Days of Pride on Ace Of Bens! Today, I have a friend, who wishes to post anonymously, talking about some of the different emotions they’re feeling this pride month. It’s a short yet sweet piece and I hope you enjoy their words as much as I do!
My coming out story isn’t a sob story or a fancy story by any means, but I think all coming out stories are important. I didn’t come out until college and realizing my sexuality made everything in my past make sense.
When I told my dad, he asked me if I was sure. I told him I was and he said okay and kept on folding laundry.
One of my aunts messaged me when Trump became President (two years after me coming out) and told me that although she doesn’t understand my sexuality, she loves me and supports me unconditionally.
One of my other aunts I never really came out to. She’s always been like a mom to me. I think she kind of always knew and she loves my girlfriend as much as she loves me.
One of my cousins, who I always fought with when I was younger, called me the day after Trump was elected. He told me he loves me, he will always protect me and my right to love who I love. He told me that even though we’ve never really been close that he’s always there for me.
I never really came out to my siblings. I don’t think they care much.
So I guess what I’m trying to say about my story is that this pride month I’m acknowledging how lucky I am. I come from a conservative, Catholic family. And all of them love me unconditionally, and they all love my girlfriend. I’m thankful to have this support system, and this pride month I’m not only proud but grateful.
