The Gaylist: A Gay Playlist | 30 Days of Pride

30 Days of Pride, Hosted by Ben Ace and Taylor Tracy. A Pride Month Playlist. A gaylist, if you will.

To kick off Pride Month, I’d like to introduce you to a playlist of upbeat songs by queer artists and allies. In part, this playlist was an exercise in familiarizing myself with more queer music outside of the mainstream. And besides, I just wanted a fun playlist to put on for the occasion.

Now, I’m not going to go through each song and summarize it because there are over 50 songs, and I know y’all aren’t reading all that. But as a way of introduction, this playlist wasn’t limited by genre. There’s everything from Janelle Monáe’s blend of alternative R&B and hip hop to Orville Peck’s classic western country style. It features the biggest names in music today like Halsey, Mitski, and Hayley Kiyoko, artists you may be hearing for the first time like The Aces, Julianna Joy, and Snail Mail, as well as the classics like Queen, David Bowie, and Elton John.

As a note, this playlist has been revisited several times since it was first posted in 2019, and including a complete revamp in 2022. So if you’re stumbling upon this sometime in the future, still check it out! The music might not actually be all that outdated.

Know a song you think should be on the playlist? I’d love to hear your suggestions!
