March Update | Hiatus Announcement, Fundraiser, and Apology3 min read

Hey, friends!

It’s been a few weeks since you’ve seen anything here on Ace Of Bens, and I want to take some time to apologize for that. I know that blogging is totally a voluntary gig and that I shouldn’t feel sorry for not constantly producing content. But there was a commitment for which I didn’t pull through, and I want to apologize, explain, and ask for some help.

My Apology

At the beginning of the month, Tay @ Stay On The Page and I did a series you may have heard about called On A Case Bi Case Basis. It was a very spur of the moment decision that I began to lose track of as my spring semester classes continued. I apologize to those who participated on my blog for not giving the series the attention it deserved. I will be more diligent with series in the future and pickier about what I choose to host and went so that this hopefully will not happen again. Still, thank you for lending your voice to the series. I very much appreciate the time, effort, and courage it took to talk about your experiences in the bi community. It does not go unrecognized.

The Bad News

As mentioned above, my school schedule got in the way of my blogging, and I wish I could say that’s it. I’ve been without a laptop since early February and it’s affected my ability to complete my school work let alone my blog work.

All that I know for sure is that the screen broke. I don’t know how, but I suspect it might have gotten crushed between books in my backpack. Mind you, this is the laptop I got for Christmas, so I only had it for a month and a half before it was unusable.

I bought two laptop screens and neither of them worked when installed. It must be more than just a screen problem, but I can’t diagnose what it is. One good thing is that the laptop itself works and can be used when connected to an external monitor, so I haven’t lost any of my files. Still, it’s not a perfect solution.

It’s extremely frustrating to have to use a desktop computer in a computer lab where others are working and often talking to each other. It’s a free public space, and they’re allowed to do what thy want there, of course. I just cannot focus like that. I struggle with ADHD. People’s presence distracts me.

On top of that, I struggle with chronic fatigue. Having to sit in a public setting alone drains me of energy more quickly than working in my room. Plus sitting up at a desk doesn’t help at all. It’s so much easier for me to work on a laptop in my bed where I can re-situate often and chill out while I get my assignments done.

How You Can Help

That being said, I am now trying to raise money for a new laptop. As of right now, I don’t have a specific model picked out. I’m looking for something that can be used for regular school/blogging work as well as graphic design since I’ve added a minor in web and graphic design. Since I’m not super well-versed on laptop brands and models, suggestions are appreciated.

If you’d like to donate, you can do so through my Ko-Fi!

If you can’t donate, don’t feel bad. I just ask that you share my fundraiser, which you can do by sharing my tweet below!

Thank you all so much for understanding and for helping me at this time. I really hope to be back soon, because I miss blogging so much and I have so many plans!

Until next time!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your bad luck! I had the same thing happen to me the weekend before finals last year so I understand the stress. I ended up with an ASUS laptop in the aftermath and it has been absolutely great since. I can’t comment on the mid-range models since I run a more powerful one for 3D modeling and programming, but anything with 8GB of RAM (memory) should work for what you need. I hope this gets sorted for quickly.
