I have barely read anything this year and I’ve only made like three posts on my blog in 2018, so this should be fun! Maybe this will
embarrass encourage me to get back into blogging.
1. What’s the best book you’ve read in 2018 so far?
I really fell in love with A Darker Shade of Magic last month, which I shouldn’t have started quite yet. Now, I have all these other books that I need to read before I can continue this series. But when I come back to, I’m sure I’ll read AGOS and ACOL super quickly.
2. What’s your favorite sequel so far?
I actually haven’t read any sequels this year…
3. What’s a new release you haven’t read yet but want to?
Just a new release? Just one? Well, I have to go with Anger Is A Gift by Mark Oshiro. I’ve heard nothing but the best about this book, and I need to jump on this bandwagon!
4. What’s your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?
There are dozens of books I can answer this one with, but I’m going to highlight Blanca y Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore, because every time I see someone with an ARC of this book, I cry a little more inside out of envy.
5. What’s your biggest disappointment so far?
I hate to name this one because it wasn’t a big disappointment, but I have to say Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann. The story is adorable and the representation is more than I could have asked for. My main problem with the story was that it just moved too slowly for me.
6. What’s your biggest surprise so far?
I wasn’t expecting much from this book. It was just one that’s been on my TBR since it came out last year, and I figured it’d be a short read. Boy, was I wrong. I mean, it’s only about ~250 pages, but this story is deep and heavy. I often had to put down the book after a couple chapters because it was so much. Nevertheless, I truly loved this book!
7. Favorite debut or new to you author?
Oh my gosh, I finished this book at 2am the other night and I am in LOVE with Rebecca Podos’s writing. I’ll post my review of this book soon, but for now, just know I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since finishing. In searching for more books by her, I came across Creatures Such As We which sounds amazing as well. Too bad it doesn’t come out until March 2019!
8. Who’s your new fictional crush?
Rhy from ADSOM. I love him, and I swear if anything else happens to this boy I am going to scream.
9. Who’s your new favorite character?
Mabel from We Are Okay is a character I didn’t expect to relate to so much.
10. What book has made you cry?
I don’t cry from books too often, but We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson nearly brought me to tears. This is another heavy book with a lot of dark themes, as I’ve heard a lot of Hutchinson’s book are. It deals with depression, suicide, abusive relationships, grief, and so much more in a beautifully handled manner.
11. What book has made you happy?
Several of the previously mentioned books have made me happy, but to avoid repeats, I want to say I Think I Am In Friend-Love With You by Yumi Sakugawa. It’s short and sweet but a super relatable graphic novella about platonic crushes.
12. Favorite book to movie adaptation?
As nearly everyone else I’ve seen do this tag has said, I have to answer with Love, Simon. To be fair, it’s really the only book to movie adaption I’ve seen this year (unless you want to argue that Black Panther is a book to movie adaption), but I cried twice during this movie. Not to be dramatic, but this is the movie I’ve waited my whole life for.
13. Favorite review you’ve written?
My Favorite so far this year is one that hasn’t been published yet…
14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought?
I haven’t bought too many books this year. I’ve traded a bunch of books and received a bunch of ARCs but I guess it’s cheating to add one of those. Either way, the most beautiful/most aesthetically pleasing cover I’ve bought is that for The Dangerous Art Of Blending In, a book that I loved but unfortunately never got around to writing a review for.
15. What are some books you really want to read in the second half of the year?
I have quite a few books in mind that I should get to soon, including Four Dead Queens btyAstrid Scholte (which I’m starting next), Unbroken edited by Marieke Nijkamp, the rest of the Shades of Magic series, All Out edited by Saundra Mitchell, and more works written in Spanish!
