Happy December, everyone! ‘Tis the season for winter-themed books. And it’s the season for this ‘Tis The Season Book Tag.
1. Do you have a favorite winter read?
I don’t have a specific book that I feel the need to read every winter, and Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg is the only one that comes to mind. It gives me a really wintery feeling because the setting is in the fall semester and there are plenty of mentions of snow in the book. So while it may not be a “winter read”, per se, that’s the answer I’m giving here!
2. Find a book with a blue cover
Ah, there are so many! I swear that blue is the most popular color scheme for book designers. For this tag, I’ll use the Spanish Edition of The Lightning Thief (El Ladrón del Rayo) by Rick Riordan, because it’s still sitting on my desk, calling out to me to read it already. *Immediately puts it on the top of my 2018 reading list*
3. Find a book you’d use as a star on a Christmas tree
One of my favorite reads from this year was When The Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore, and I’d totally give it a spotlight by putting it on top of my tree. (I mean, if it were actually possible to place a book on a Christmas tree like that without falling!) Plus it has a beautiful night sky with a bunch of stars on the cover. It’s the perfect fit!
4. Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation
I think I have to pick the country of Amestris from the Fullmetal Alchemist series. Now that they (presumably) have all their stuff together and their government isn’t run by magical monsters, it’s probably a great place to visit. I bet it’s beautiful in the north this time of year.
5. Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation
Hmm, maybe Sierra Santiago from Shadowshapers, because I’m reading that right now, and I’m really vibing with her character.
6. Name one book on your wishlist this year
Man, I have been trying to save money to buy the Spanish editions of the Raven Cycle series forever. Alas, I also need to spend money on food, and those books are expensive. Another book that I really want is Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee. That’s one I’ve wanted to read all year, but my library never got it, so it was, unfortunately, put on the backburner.
7. Favorite holiday drink, treat, and movie
Hot chocolate, peanut butter fudge, and The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Happy holidays! May the new year bring happiness and success to each of you!
